Investigation of Water Distribution and Mobility Dynamics in Recalcitrant Quercus acutissima Seeds during Desiccation Using Magnetic Resonance Methods

Recalcitrant seed vigor is closely related to moisture, so how do the water distribution and status change during drying? In this study, we investigated association between content (WC) germination of Quercus acutissima seeds used nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) monitor dynamics drying. Results showed that freshly dispersed had 38.8% WC, but drying 14.8% WC resulted in a complete loss vigor. Magnetic images (MRI) reveal embryonic axis highest fastest rate loss, lost from apex center end cotyledons desiccation. According low-field NMR results, proportion free fresh was at 55%, followed by bound 10% immobile 35%. During drying, were simultaneously, most when died. Our results revealed Q. are highly sensitive desiccation sites micropyle scar. desiccation, could not be retained, balance broken, eventually leading death.
